Support Teatro for #SVGives

On May 5, 2015, thousands of your friends and neighbors will show their support for their favorite nonprofit during Silicon Valley Gives. On that day, every donation and donor Teatro receives will help us compete for a share of thousands of dollars in prize money.

This is going to be a huge event, and everyone will be talking about who they’re supporting on social media and around the proverbial "water cooler" at work. Think of it like American Idol or The Voice. We need your support to make it to the top!

We were honored to receive more than $1,300 in support during the inaugural SV Gives in 2014, and we want to double that this year.

Here are 3 quick things you can do to help...

What's next?

MACARIO Thank YouOur thanks once again to everyone who made the 2nd annual production of MACARIO a success! This show represents a huge step forward for us as a company, and it's been inspiring to receive such a positive response from our community.

We're especially grateful to Director Rodrigo García, Musical Director Russell Rodríguez, and Choreographer Arturo Magaña for their amazing work bringing a fresh vision to the play. And we're excited about the opportunity to continue developing MACARIO and exploring its themes as it becomes a Día de los Muertos tradition for San José.

Now that the show has closed, many of you have asked us, "What's next for Teatro?" We have spent the last two years implementing a new programming model grounded in the development of new work through community engagement and education. This may mean less stage productions, but with greater depth and impact. MACARIO is the first step in this process.

Director's Diary, Vol. 2

In the second installment of our MACARIO Director's Diary, Rodrigo interviews Costumer Designer Rita Foster about her approach to the 2014 production.

Director's Diary, Vol. 1

Every now and again, we'll check in with MACARIO Production Director and longtime Teatro Artistic Associate Rodrigo García for an update on the production. This is the first installment...

Rodrigo_Garcia_headshot.jpgMACARIO 2014 is in full force. Our traditional orientation rehearsal went really well, with all the cast, production team, designers, and community participants gathered at Hoover Community Center. Teatro Visión Co-Founder and Artistic Director Elisa Marina Alvarado attended the session and gave an inspiring talk about MACARIO as a vehicle to further the conversation about hunger and food justice in our communities.

The design team also shared the aesthetic concept of this year's production, which is inspired by Expressionism and the work of Mexican muralists such as Siqueiros, Rivera, and Orozco. Both of these elements reflect the style of the award-winning film adaptation of Macario from the early 1960s.
