You are invited to learn how to use laughter in difficult situations to relieve pain and hurt. Recommended for students in nursing, public health, recreation, health science, theater arts, and social sciences.
 
This free event is open to the public.
 
 
Clowns Without Borders relieves the suffering of all persons, especially children, who live in areas of crisis, including refugee camps, conflict zones, and territories in situations of emergencies. Sometimes, laughter is the only medicine.
 
This event is presented in partnership with San Jose State University's Department of Health Science and Recreation.

Yosimar_image.jpgYosimar Reyes is the artist in residence at Define American, a media and culture organization dedicated to shifting the conversation surrounding immigration and identity in a changing America. He is a nationally acclaimed poet, educator, performance artist, and public speaker. Born in Guerrero, Mexico, and raised in East San Jose, California, Reyes explores the themes of migration and sexuality in his work.

Teatro Visión has spent the last year gathering stories from your friends and neighbors right here in San José - and now those stories are part of this very special new play!
 
Doña Juana is a little like a partera (a midwife), but instead of bringing babies into this world, she helps the dying move from this life into whatever comes next. Now she's trying to train her young protégé Connie  if Connie will take her ear buds out long enough to learn!
 
Departera (working title) is performed bilingually in English and Spanish.
Seating is general admission.
